Fireworks don’t really photograph well—how can still pictures possibly capture the starbursts and flashes, the whistles and pops and resounding thunder, the oohs and ahs and wows?

But film tranforms the streaks of light made permanent into something else—jellyfish, dandylion puffs, feathered fronds.
