Mohawk Mountain House is a rambling old Victorian hotel, perched by a mountain lake in the Shawangunk Mountains. With views of the Shawangunks and Catskills, thousands of acres of pristine forest, and hiking trails varying from graded roads to rock scrambles, it is the perfect place to relax and meditate. It is the perfect place for painters, and it makes for some spectacular photographs.

The highest point is Skytop Tower, which can be very windy even on mild days. The best place to watch the sunset is Cope's Lookout, or the expanse of flat rock below it; the path from the hotel is short and level, but remember to bring a flashlight for the return journey.
